the most popular barcode symbology used in Europe and mainly by the rest of the world and' the EAN. It's a retail barcode system that serves to identify a product. Unique numbers are assigned to a product, not only to identify a product brand, but any of its variants (weight, color, ingredients, price, etc.).

he EAN can encode GTIN-13 numbers (EAN-13 code) and GTIN-8 numbers (EAN-8 code). The 13-digit code is the most common, while the one with 8 is generally used when space is limited more reduced.

here are further variations of the EAN code, such as EAN-13+2 and EAN 13+5. The latter are not used frequently, but are used to encode additional information.

he EAN symbology is a world standard, although other countries use other systems. To facilitate the administration of codes, each country has an identification number at the beginning of the code. For Italy it is the 80's. Other countries have two or three area codes, for example 93 for Australia and 773 for Uruguay.
